While planning the decorations for your reception, it is extremely important to ALWAYS keep in mind the decor of the venue that you have chosen. I recognize that this sounds obvious, but the reality is that much of the time a bride will pick her favorite color schemes whether or not they clash with the decor of the venue itself. If you have a specific color scheme and/or theme in mind for your wedding reception, be sure to note that the venue's existing decor WILL overpower your color scheme. The only way to avoid this is if the venue's decor naturally goes well with what you already have in mind, or if if you are on a very large budget. If money is not a problem, then you can turn any venue into whatever you can imagine.
There are many ways to prevent going over a budget at the last minute. One notable strategy is to pick out your color schemes before venue hunting and then completely rule out all venues that do not match or compliment the colors of your choice. If you are undecided on your color scheme, it is safe to pick venues with neutral colors so that you have a broad pallet to work with. Another strategy is to pick the venue of your dreams and then compliment what is already there. It is always a better strategy to have your colors and reception decorations dress up what is already there rather than try to overpower it.
There are beautiful venues that are not going to match every color scheme, therefore be careful and choose wisely. A bride must be prepared to choose a venue that matches her color scheme, or a color scheme that matches her selected venue!
Notice that blue and yellow complimentary colors. The yellow walls of the venue compliment the bride's choice in colors. If you have already picked the venue, then get as much out of it as you can. In this example, the venue worked for this bride (rather than against her) and brought extra pop to her colors.
Notice black and white chair covers with pops of pink, green, white, and red in the centerpieces. The bride chose neutral chairs and sashes, but added pops of color in the floral arrangements. This complimented the venue's decor of green walls and rustic red and green carpet. By doing this, the bride used the venue's decor to her advantage. Venue and reception decor worked together to make this reception beautiful.
